Lions Clubs International is the world's largest secular service organization with over 44,500 clubs and more than 1.4 million members in 203 countries around the world.
Lions Clubs International was founded in the United States in 1917 by Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman. Jones asked, with regard to his colleagues, "What if these men who are successful because of their drive, intelligence and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?" Jones' personal code, "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else," reminds many Lions of the importance of community service.
At the local, zone, region, district, and international level, Lions members exemplify their motto “We Serve.” Lions Clubs focus on programming related to sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and other programs that support the local communities where Lions live. Lions are also passionate about developing effective leadership skills in their members and have an extensive leadership development program including an online Lions Learning Center and several leadership institutes.

Story time (Mookie Goes Down the Shore) and book signing with Judith Kristen and... Mookie!
On Thursday, June 18th, 2009 The Food Network's most popular show, "Ace of Cakes" is coming to Good Intent Elementary School in Deptford, New Jersey!
Duff Goldman (Owner) has designed cakes for: The Harry Potter Hollywood Premiere, The King Tut Exhibit, The Tonight Show, and The Super Bowl... to name a few.
And now... he personally designed one for Good Intent Elementary School.
Why?
To celebrate our shaggy dog hero who also made heroes of the 428 students right there at Good Intent.
Henley Harrison West took his book, "My Name is Henley - my life and times as a rescued dog" and his mission on the road two years ago with a program his mom/owner and typist labeled -- "An Old Dog Teaches Kids New Tricks" tour.
So touched by his visit and story Good Intent Elementary School fell in love with the dog and his mission and Henley became their school mascot.
Driven by Henley's words the children collected thousands of pounds worth of food, blankets, paper towels, leashes, collars, beds, treats, and toys for their local animal rescue shelter - The Gloucester County Animal Shelter
The 4th and final donation drive of the year from the children comes on June 18th along with an exact look-alike "donation box" a HUGE, beautiful cake designed by Food Network Star- Duff Goldman - "Ace of Cakes" - for the kids to eat and not donate!
This amazing piece of culinary art is being transported from Baltimore (the home base for Duff's Charm City Cakes) and will arrive with much fanfare at Good Intent at 8:30 AM for set-up, in plenty of time to celebrate the children who have learned many valuable life lessons about our animal friends and about themselves while they were at it.
Happy endings do exist.
