Announcement of 4 New Books in 2007!

"By December 2007, Judith will have added four of her own books to the ever-growing collection:

"My Name is Henley":
My Name is Henley is a story about an Old English Sheepdog. Abandoned and left to die, the dog soon finds his life making a turn for the better when he is rescued from a puppy mill and then adopted from that rescuing shelter by a loving "Mom" and given a happy home in which to live out the rest of his life.

Within a year of his arrival Henley welcomes not only another rescue animal - a cat named Mandy - but four more rescued felines as well. Rose, Cynthia, Mookie, and Ned eventually join the household before the year is out and fun, chaos, and adventure abound!

Written in the dog's own voice, it brings this book to life in a way the reader will find charming, informative, and entertaining.

There are times you will find yourself laughing outloud, and other times when you will find yourself reaching for that box of Kleenex. A book for animal lovers of all ages!

My Name is Henley will be translated into German (in early 2008) under the title of:

Henley - Vom Leben eines geborgenen Hundes
Which in translation is: Henley: About the life of a rescued dog
(To write it exactly as it is in English doesn't translate well. :)

Also in 2008, the book will be translated into Spanish as:
Mi nombre es Henley. Mi vida y tiempos como un perro rescatado

"The Light and Dark Side of Seventeen":
On March 21st, Judith's latest young adult book was released. "The Light and Dark Side of Seventeen" hit the number one spot in the young adult category the day of its release!

"Paradox Found":
This book will be the long awaited sequel to her best-selling "Another Day In Paradox... a very unconventional love story" ...

"Sister Sparkle":
This book is a touching biography of the life of Judy's sister,Viva. The two children (Judy and Viva) were adopted by different families, and both girls grew up most of their younger years believing they were cousins, when, of course, they were not.

Viva's
life was one of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse. Her one saving grace was that she was a fabulous dancer, so fabulous in fact, that at age 17 she became one of New York City's famed Rockettes! Viva worked over the years with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Mary Martin, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, The Three Stooges, Bing Crosby and many, many others. She also appeared on the cover of LIFE Magazine with her fellow Rockettes, as well as gracing the cover of TV Guide with Mary Martin, in an advertisement for one of the finest Easter Specials ever to be programmed for national television. Viva's talent gave her a ticket to ride away from her former life, although memories would still haunt her for decades.

Now, at age 61, Viva's story has a happy ending. This book will stand as a testament to the power of human will, and show that courage, a passion for life, forgiveness and gratitude can indeed repair the child within us all, so that we can make peace with our world as well as with ourselves."

Judith Kristen and her husband, Andrew West, now have their own publishing company, called Aquinas & Krone Publishing, LLC. In the sincere hopes of beginning a very unique publishing company, they decided to make their initial book a very special limited edition: check Henley out!

HELLO EUROPE!

During a trip to Germany and France in January and early February, 2007, Ms. Kristen and her husband Andrew, have been invited to speak to poets and writers in Heidelberg, Germany, where Ms. Kristen once attended school, and, in Paris, The City of Lights, where Andrew toured with The Pennington School in the Spring of 1984, and again, as a private citizen, in the summer of '86.

UPDATE: Judith & Andrew will be spending the December 2007 holidays in Germany for a wonderful visit and to put the final touches on the German version of
"My Name is Henley"

New Jersey School Board Association 2007
Welcomes Judith Kristen

Geraldine Carroll, Superintendent of the Lindenwold School District sent a proposal to The New Jersey School Boards, so that Ms. Kristen's work with the students of The Garden State will be featured at their Annual Convention in Atlantic City!
This event is scheduled for October 24-26, 2007 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Thousands of New Jersey School Board members arrive in town for a grand exposition and trade show full of educational seminars, workshops, and business meetings. The NJSBA takes over the AC Convention Center arriving by rail, bus or car from every corner of the State!

The NJSBA annual conference is very important for the Teachers and Administrators of New Jersey Schools, as they can attend such workshops as Action Labs, Curriculum Fair, State Legislative Update, Labor Relations Mini-Workshop, Public Relations Mini Workshop and more!

What a wonderful invitation and opportunity for Ms. Kristen, her students, and her Teen Writers Guilds!

In February, 2006 "Olivia Twist... a quest for the glass half full", hit the Number One spot at Barnes and Noble in four teen categories!!!!

In May of 2006, "The Purple Hat Gang" hit the Number One spot at Barnes and Noble in five teen categories!!!!!

LitScape Magazine --- A publication of Proliteracy America, U.S. Division Program of Proliteracy Worldwide features a full color photo of Judith's "The Purple Hat Gang" in their Spring/Summer 2006 issue. ProLiteracy America, the largest adult literacy organization in the United States, was established on October 1, 2002, with the merger of Laubach Literacy and Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. ProLiteracy America's 1,200 affiliates are represented in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

A teacher of the teachers!

The EIRC (Educational Information & Resource Center) in Sewell, New Jersey, has hired Ms.Kristen to give teaching workshops and seminars to new teachers as well as seasoned veterans and their principals. Dr. Jay Dugan attended a curriculum consortium and heard Ms. Kristen speak about her work with students, her books that are filled with positive messages for teens, her passion for reading and writing, and he knew immediately that the state of New Jersey was in need of her talents.

The Purple Store of Seattle Washington donates a percentage of the proceeds from every "purple" book sold to two literacy affiliates --- Literacy Source, also in Seattle, and Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey. Ms. Kristen matches The Purple Store's donations from the sale of...of course, her best-selling young adult book --- "The Purple Hat Gang".

Judith has been a regular positive force at The Annual Philadelphia Teen Summit since it started 9 years ago. Once again, this year, Judith worked with Dr. Louis Castelli and ArkMedia of Philadelphia to script and direct a series of short films to show to the attending students, teachers and principals. This year's theme -- "Anti-Violence."
Judith spoke to the students at the Convention about following their dreams and making their mark in the world a positive one. As she said, "If your ship doesn't come in... swim out to it!"

Edie Huggins, one of our favorite Philadelphia TV people & journalists, selected Judy as one of "Huggins Heroes" after Edie received hundreds of calls and emails about her work with children, her love of libraries, and her books for young adults.
This award is given to people of the city of Philadelphia who give back, and who make a genuine difference in people's lives.

NBC sent a film crew to Frankford High School to tape Ms. Kristen in one of her writing workshops. It was one of the most successful workshops of its type ever shown on television! Schools, libraries, Book Conventions and Librarian Conferences from as far away as California called to ask her to visit and speak and work her magic for their children!

Update, 2007:

PSLA WORKSHOP!!!
Ms. Kristen, Frankford High School Librarian, Magna Diaz, and a two members of The Teen Writers Guild were invited back for the third year in a row to The Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Conference in Hershey, Pa, (April 12th through 15th) The PSLA expects their informative, fun, and educational workshop to once again be filled to capacity!

Judith's first Young Adult book, "The Purple Hat Gang" was only out for 11 months but it created such a stir within the The Philadelphia Public School System, that she was asked to be the Banquet Speaker at The Annual Pennsylvania School Librarians Conference, in Hershey, Pa. Judith's speech was packed with passion, intelligence, and humor, and she received a standing ovation immediately after addressing over 1,000 public school librarians. Several stormed the stage and asked the author for her email address and phone number with hope that Judith could come and visit their school... their children. It was quite a moving experience for one and all, and it was a tremendous success. She will speak again next year about her "Books are Power" program. At this Philadelphia Librarians Conference Judith Kristen received The Philadelphia Librarians 2006 Award as their "Honoree of the Year" in appreciation for her support of school libraries and dedication to the children of Philadelphia!

Among those 150 are the top fifty books, which are discussed at The Annual Librarians Conference. Three years in a row, Judith's books, including the one she worked on with the students at Frankford High School, were among these select fifty.
